Death's Too Short

by Lyle Perez-Tinics

An amazing collection of short stories that feature lots of zombie goodness!

This is a fine compilation of zombie stories and each of them tells a slightly different aspect of an outbreak in a small town. This anthology includes a bunch of very clever short stories that will please any fan of the genre.. The collection is written as if each story is an episode and tells a different and exciting portion of events . It reminds of a television show but in print. Some of these stories are very, very grisly and one of the most gruesome is "Vigor After Death" about a mad scientist and an experiment that goes terribly wrong.  "A Kid Named Layne" is one of the saddest zombie stories that I've ever heard. It's about a kid who witnesses everyone around turning into the undead and this one will pull at many heartstrings. The story that I feel is the most interesting and a very unexpected, wonderful and entirely whimsical was "Gingerbreads". A story which told a zombie tale from the point of view of  bakery goods which had an end that was even more inventive. This one was my personal favorite and gave me some very dark giggles. I found a couple of these stories a little disturbing but in a good way.  "Radio Dead" is just such a tale about a DJ that takes calls from witnesses of the zombie outbreak and what does with that information.  It has a story that combines sci-fi and zombie horror themes that was a great blend of both genres called "Undead Side of the Moon". The story "Firefighter" is another gem that's included in the anthology.  It relates and entirely new idea about how one becomes a member of the undead.

"Death's Too Short" is one of the more appealing anthologies that I've read that featured zombies in the major story lines.  Mr. Perez-Tinics writes some excellent short fiction in this collection.   Each of these stories have an excellent pace to them and are deeply engrossing.  I highly recommend this bunch of tales to anyone who likes original thinking about zombies.
