A Review of Deadlands 2: Trapped
Deadlands 2:Trapped is a film where a governmentally funded laboratory releases a gas onto on unsuspecting small town which turns them into ravenous flesh-eating zombies. After an attack by a zombie a small group finds refuge with another group in a movie theatre where they find themselves surrounded by a zombie horde.
Usually low budget films aren't very good or are mediocre at best. Deadlands 2: Trapped is an extraordinary exception. It has a very cohesive storyline and was very well written. The plot actually makes sense in this film and has very few flaws. Those flaws being very minor and were limited to technical aspects. The film was paced well and had many pleasant surprises and some enjoyable shocks along the way.
One great aspect of the film was its restraint in the use of gory scenes. The scenes where gore is present the director shows only the very beginning of the zombie attacks. Such restraint is a pleasant departure from the bloody banquets that other films in this genre rely too much on. The movie, instead, focuses on the characters and their reactions to their surroundings. The acting is impressive and the actors know both their roles and how to perform them. The acting is one of the highlights of this film. In some films the viewer may find one or two performers who tend to "ham it up" but that it not the case here. These actors combined their talents to make the scenes very effective.
Recently, this film won two awards at a film festival. This is not surprising as the film is genuinely very good.

Resurrection House
Resurrection House
by James Chambers
Dark Regions Press-2009
Resurrection House is an assortment of very original horror short stories.
Mooncat Jack-A new spin on the bogeyman.
Trick-An elderly man sees demons in every child's face on a Halloween night.
Gray Gulls Gyre-a woman helps a man and his daughter fight something vengeful.
Refugees-A disfigured young man discovers that a childhood friend has a deep secret.
Resurrection House-A man purchases a house where the dead roam freely.
The Feeding Things-A monstrous being searches and finds his true mate.
The Last Stand of Danny O'Barry-An unsavory man finds horror in old San Francisco.
The Tale of the Spanish Prisoner-A tale of terror on the high seas.
Vicious Swimmers- A science experiment goes terribly wrong and leads to dreadful results.
Five Points-A police officer responds to a call and finds long concealed corruption beneath the streets of New York.
These stories are highly creative accounts of horror, fantasy, and a bit of science fiction. James Chambers writes stories that are unique and represent some extraordinary short fiction. The stories were ingeniously written, especially the title story, "Resurrection House" where various undead persons walked around in various states of decay. Another story that was very well written was, "The Tale of the Spanish Prisoner". Set aboard an 18th century ship that lent a sense of claustrophobia and an overwhelming sense of doom. The pace of each story varied and most of them were very rapid while others contained a series of interesting climaxes. The characters in each of the stories were shaped well and were truly convincing. I found that I could easily imagine their faces, the clothes they wore and the emotions they felt. I genuinely liked reading this medley of the macabre and hope the author will write and publish more stories like these.

The greatest horror magazine on the planet Fangoria is holding a contest for YOU the fans and fellow living dead and we get to select which trailer will get to be shown up on the big screen. How bad ass is that?! They were kind enough to contact Living Dead Media about announcing the contest and want you gore hounds to start voting on which trailer will move on to the big screen. This is an awesome idea and we want to show our support by helping everyone vote on what they want to see. So get out there and get to voting and remember that all eyes are on you!
Well I do enjoy me some zombie carnage and whole sale slaughter of innocence especially when it has a rockabilly zombie theme. I happened to stumble across a copy of this gem at the local Best Buy and snagged it for 5 dollars. All I can say is, wow this movie kicks ass. I never expected something with a title like this to actually be good but I was surprised. Most of the cast are not so well known with the exception of Trace Adkins and the lovely Priscilla Barnes of the Devil's Rejects and Three's Company fame. The whole concept was original and there is lots of gory goodness for the die hard gore hounds. It is rare to see lesser unknown titles to be so good.
Our story begins in 1981 with Nichole who has bigger plans than rotting away in a trailer park like the locals and become something bigger in life. After some of the local red necks of the park accidentally kill her would be future husband she meets an unlikely ally. She starts wandering alone and confused down the road and meets up with an agent of the devil or even possibly the devil himself played by Adkins. He offers her a chance to extract her vengeance at a small price. She proceeds to extract that vengeance with a hell unlike any other. After the trailer park burns to the ground is when the real terror begins. Over the years there have been mysterious disappearances and un-explained murders. It is only when a bus full of delinquents stumble upon the park do we find out what hell really looks like.
The special effects and make up in my opinion looked outstanding and the acting was great. The DVD offers an rated and unrated version of the film and tons of cool bonus features. The music was another thing I would like to point out to those psychobilly/rockabilly fans out there would enjoy. The atmosphere was creepy and the action was a plenty. I have enjoyed my 5 dollar purchase and would have paid much more for it. If you are looking for a cool zombie/ devil came to Georgia style film then check this out.
